Re:       Promoting 2-1-1

Neighborhood & Community Leaders,

Louisville Metro is fortunate to have a 2-1-1 line that is available for human service needs.  Many residents in our community remain unaware of this free, 24/7 service.  I am writing to ask your help in making sure residents of your community, organization or neighborhood are aware of 2-1-1.

What can you do

  • Request from Metro United Way camera ready 2-1-1 logos for use in your newsletter and on your website

  • Request from Metro United Way 2-1-1 calling cards and magnets that can be distributed to your residents

  • Place a link on your website directly to the Metro United Way 2-1-1 website would be a great way to keep residents informed about 2-1-1.

  • Request a 150-word article from Metro United Way to run in your newsletter

  • Book a speaker from Metro United Way for your next meeting

One Stop Shop for help with family and individual issues

On September 6, 2006, Metro United Way launched 2-1-1 service in the Kentuckiana area. While everyone knows to call 911 for a medical emergency, few people know who to call when they need help with individual and family issues. 2-1-1 solves that problem.

Professional Assistance

Callers to 2-1-1 are connected with counselors from Seven County Services’ Crisis Information Center who are trained to provide callers with human services information most appropriate for their particular issue. Whether a caller is seeking assistance for a homebound parent or relative, finding a day care for their child or seeking emergency food and shelter, 2-1-1 is there to help all callers find the right service for their situation.

History of Assistance

Over 61,000 callers across the Louisville Metro area have been assisted by Metro United Way  2-1-1 since September 2006. Most recently, 2-1-1 helped elderly, homebound and ill individuals get help in cleaning up their properties as a result of the Hurricane Ike windstorm. In fact, 628 individuals sought help through 2-1-1.
